On Wednesday 1 June, as u3as across the movement met together to celebrate the u3a 40th Anniversary and Queen's Jubilee, Tamworth u3a hosted an afternoon tea at Tamworth Assembly Rooms.

The Chair, Judy, says "The venue we used is also where we hold our monthly meetings. The building was opened in 1889 and Tamworth councillors decided that the building would be a fitting monument to celebrate Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee, so definitely appropriate for our celebration.

"There were 115 members who attended the celebration and we started with a glass of prosecco or orange juice. The rooms were beautifully decorated in purple and silver lighting. Balloons, bunting and numerous flags were added by some of our committee members.

"Our history group leader, Martyn Hall gave a short presentation on the year 1952. During the afternoon tea a video presentation played on a giant screen of the Queen's life which was put together by our Film Club group leader David Pratty. He had even got the London Olympic games opening when the Queen parachuted in from a helicopter. This was very much enjoyed by all the members.

"After tea we were entertained by a fabulous singer Irena. She certainly got us up and dancing as you can see in the photographs.

"It was a wonderful afternoon's celebration to our Queen who has dedicated her life to serving this country for the past 70 years with such dignity and grace."
