On Sunday 7 September, five u3a members took part in The Great North Run in Newcastle. After months of training and fundraising in their local communities, Romsey Archway u3a member Nigel, Rickmansworth u3a member Frances, Chorleywood u3a member Rik, Lymm & Thelwall u3a member Duncan and Haslemere u3a and Guildford u3a member Elizabeth took their marks.

They were cheered on by a team of u3a volunteers, from a variety of u3as. These volunteers handed out leaflets and spoke to people within the crowd about the u3a movement and the positive impact it can have on the lives of older people.

The runners were five of 60,000 runners who took part in The Great North Run this year - which is the largest half-marathon in the world.

Each runner is aiming to raise £375 for The Third Age Trust - money which will go towards supporting the creation of more learning and social opportunities within u3a and helping The Third Age Trust to support existing u3as and establish new u3as in areas where they do not currently exist. You can support the runners on their fundraising pages.
