Southport u3a have been awarded a medal and trophy for their show garden at the Southport Flower Show.
The garden was designed, created and built by their gardening group to promote the u3a movement and showcase the varied groups at their u3a. It impressed judges at the show and won the Large Gold Medal for 'Community/Charity Garden' and The Brian Aughton Memorial Trophy for 'Best use of Plants in A Display.'
Appearing on ITV News North West, Dianne and Lisa from Southport u3a's Gardening Group said, "It's all part of the u3a ethos. It is about learning about things. Building on this garden has brought us closer together. We have worked very hard."

During the weekend, it was visited by over 800 u3a members and attracted incredible publicity. Janette Manrara and Aljaz Skorjanec, known best as dancers on BBC's Strictly Come Dancing, appeared at the show and took photos, dancing in the garden - adding a bit of strictly flair to the show.
