Why I Love IGO by Richard

Richard lives in Dalkeith and is in his mid-fifties. He is a member of local face to face groups but in IGO he’s in the Classical Music and the Short Story Groups.

With a CD collection of over 3000, Richard loves a whole range of composers. A couple I know about too are Arnold Bax and Malcom Arnold and he has autographs from them both! Writing stories and poems over the years has definitely helped him keep his mental health – healthy. Another string to his bow has been his talent for creating and solving puzzles – he’s published in the Dover Press and in The Guardian Newspaper – let's see what he says in his own words now.
Words by Helen, News Extra Editor

"I’m infinitely grateful to u3a. It’s done wonders for my health in every aspect. The people I’ve met are wonderful and it is inspiring me more and more. Each sunrise is an open door to the world but especially I am grateful to feel that there really can be so much more to life as one moves on through life.

I really have learned that after a difficult and awkward youth that the ultimate cream of one’s life really can be the time still to come. And u3a friends amongst many others have helped me celebrate getting older bit by bit into a world where if youth can’t be regained all the greatest optimism and joy really can be appreciated. The best time of all can come later in life though I’ve had to start getting nearer to that to realise it …

Life is lovely."
