Now I am Membership Secretary of Bearsden and Milngavie u3a, try to spend more time in the countryside and am struggling to improve my Spanish language.

The mind of your microwave
We are surrounded by computers – desktops, laptops, tablets or smartphones – but our houses are full of tiny ‘computers’ in embedded electronic systems that few people realise are there. This talk starts with a trip back to computers of the 1960s before showing how these devices became so prevalent.

Each of us is responsible for the emission of about 10 tonnes of carbon dioxide every year – our carbon footprint. This talk describes my attempt to identify the main contributions to my household’s carbon footprint so that I can plan to reduce it.
