Music Production

About the adviser

I have played the guitar for over 50 years. However, when Lockdown hit in 2020 and my bands could no longer play together, I turned to using a Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) on my computer as another way of making music.

What is music production all about?

Walk into any recording studio these days, be it Abbey Road or my humble setup, you will find a computer running a DAW. It’s a program which provides everything you need to make music: instruments, a recording and editing facility, a mixing desk and so on, but all ‘virtual’. A DAW does for music what a word processor does for words. You can copy and paste, drag and drop and so on. You don’t even need to have any knowledge of music theory or be able to play an instrument, although these do help.

How can I help?

DAWs are suitable for producing any kind of music and you can do it all yourself, or with others, in your own time. Whether you want to produce the next chart hit or just want to know more about what this is all about, get in touch via my contact form.

I am starting to connect with other u3a members with an interest in music production. Join us!
