Learning in the u3a movement

An evening shot capturing the lit up wind streaked clouds high over the River Taw towards Exmoor.

This was taken on a u3a walk in the Shropshire hills around Clun. The cattle appeared briefly on the horizon, in stark contrast to the clear blue sky and sun-bleached grass giving a simple picture of rural summer.

A photograph from my campsite on Cnicht mountain in Snowdonia. An arduous trek up Cnicht, lugging my camping and camera equipment proved to be worth the effort!

An interesting perspective on the roofline of Chastleton House in the Cotswolds. The pure white clouds in the amazingly blue sky really sets the scene for a beautiful building. Taken on an iPhone.

The skyline behind Fawley Oil Refinery is covered with masses of large storage tanks - resembling piles of large white counters from a giant's board game.

I took this long exposure of the London skyline early one morning, just after sunrise.

This was taken at Fort Nelson, Portsmouth. This is part of an outdoor installation showing 258 life sized silhouettes to commemorate the lives lost in the Falklands conflict. It was called Standing with Giants and set up to commemorate the 40th Anniversary. Living in the area and knowing and working with people who did not see their loved ones return made this installation all the more moving. So many gone but certainly not forgotten.

We were on an amazing river trip in Myanmar, we stopped in Bagan to visit the numerous temples and stupas. In the evening we went to a viewpoint to see the sunset. The colours are made prominent by the cloudless sky and the wood smoke in the air. nearly all home cooking is done on wood fires, hence the smoky atmosphere

A brief desert rainbow caught from near a visitor centre in Palm Springs, California. Beyond the rainbow is the area where the San Andreas fault runs.

After being in the Queen's Queue from 1.30am, and standing virtually stationary for 2 hours opposite St Paul's Cathedral outside the Tate Modern, I was delighted to see the dawn at 6am. Fifteen hours in the Queen's Queue was well worth the effort of leaving Newquay at 7.30pm on Thursday evening and not being able to sleep again until I got home at 9.30am on Saturday morning.

I joined our local u3a photography group visit to the Midlands Airshow at Ragley Hall earlier this month, and was captivated by the aerial patterns made by the RAF parachute display team, the RAF Falcons, who are based locally at Brize Norton in Oxfordshire.

This photo was taken at about 6 pm in Farnborough where the birds were roosting on an old Portable Airship Hangar, a beautiful structure in its own right. I thought the Skylines theme fitted well. The hangar [measuring 250 ft long (76m) and 70 ft high (21m)] was originally built in 1912 and then restored and re-erected in 2006.
