Across the River Torridge, from Appledore
Low tide exposing the sands between Appledore and Instow, across the River Torridge. The sands can often be well populated with wading birds, especially noticeable when the tide is coming in. The tidal range here, off the Severn Channel, is one of the greatest in the World. The river has silted up over many years, although is navigable, with a large covered shipyard a little further up the river. On the hillside opposite is Tapley Park and House, and on the shore an old Lime Kiln.
