On a u3a outing to Wimpole Hall and Farm the pigs were enjoying the summer sunshine. The repeating shapes and shiny coats just asked to be photographed!

Photographed at Saltburn by the Sea. A different perspective looking through the line of huts with repeated colours and shapes.

I photographed the dahlia in the gardens at Cragside. I used photo-editing software to create a multi-representation of the single image.

The Maersk office building in Copenhagen. The view gives the impression of a two-dimensional wall with windows looking through to the blue sky beyond. The symmetrical repetition of the sky reflected in the office buildings creates a striking image. The photograph was taken from one of the many sight-seeing boats that ply their trade in the city.

Mersea’s beach huts shrouded in mist. I haven’t seen an image taken in these conditions so thought I’d try something different.

Taken in Barcelona a few years ago now. City caring for the environment in so many ways. 

I stumbled across these telephone boxes in Covent Garden, London and thought they would make an interesting photo on the topic ‘Repetition’. Using a photo editor I experimented with the grunge tool which gives more of a painted effect to these cultural icons.

I found the lighting on this very long stairwell both fascinating and appealing and spent quite a time walking from the top floor to the basement.

The viaduct is located near Haywards Heath and carries the London to Brighton railway line. Patience is required to get a shot without people in the way!

Every time I thought I was there they tumbled down and I had to start over again!

Imagine that your job was dealing with bobbin after bobbin, hour after hour, day after day.

Close up of some of the lovely poppies that were in a field full of them in North Norfolk, I converted the picture to BW and then added back the poppy petal colours only, to enhance the look of the petals, stalks and seed heads.

This Roman mosaic was on display, vertically, in St Albans. I was fascinated by the trompe l'oeil effect of the repeated shapes. The more you look the more you see ... the Romans often used repeated waves in different colours to edge and I love the way they are the same both ways round. The centre at the bottom gives perspective, and the fan shape takes on a 3-D effect because of the use of colours. Keep looking and the shape changes. A limited palette but huge effect. Many thanks to the Romans.

It was the shadows that caught my eye first, then the trolleys, posts and brickwork. Repetition in our everyday lives.
