The West Midlands Region Conference commemorated the 40th anniversary throughout its programme – including with a special celebrity appearance.
On 22 March, u3a members from across the West Midlands came together for ‘A Day of Inspiring Lives.’ The talks showcased the opportunities and experiences available in later life.
The conference began with a video recording of a special 40th anniversary song, written and sung by Wyre Forest & District u3a member, Jim. In the chorus of the song, Jim sings, “Let’s celebrate, hip hip hooray, 40 years of the u3a. Mighty trees from saplings grow, planting seeds, row on row.”
The show ended with special guest Don Maclean, known for Crackerjack, who told jokes and spoke about memorable moments in his career. Asked by Trustee for the West Midlands, Allan Walmsley, to wish u3a a happy birthday, he said “To all u3a members and to all the u3a groups all over the country, god bless you and a very happy 40th anniversary.“
